Today I added some water to my SDL2/C++ game. It's basically just a line of springs joined up but it looks like water if you tweak it a bit. I also added some decorations (trees! yay!) and some more sound effects. I also wasted an hour or two fixing a segmentation fault 😭 (pain). Next is leaves!

I'm working on #C087QT3QUV7|! It's going to be a Slack ARG where you solve puzzles throughout Slack to join channels and progress through the game. Sounds simple right? The catch is that it's entirely written in Slack workflows with only 1st party functions, no integrations. I've been hammering out the functionality today and have built a system that lets you put in your answer to a puzzle and if it's correct then you'll get added to the next channel! This system has error handling too - if you get it wrong then you'll get a message telling you that it's wrong. There's also random text for when you submit, get it right or get it wrong. It's basically functionally finished now, I just need to create the puzzles :D (I have a few Slack windows open - this is currently made up of 4 Slack Lists and 7 workflows)

Today I added some sound effects to my C++/SDL2 game to make the combat a bit more juicy. I also added some sparks vfx, worked on the turtles, and fixed an annoying bug with the health bars. Next is water and leaves! (hopefully) github.com/snej55/paper-world

I've almost never talked about it to anyone: Before Anson Chung become Anson Chung, he was known by many different names by many different people. Most notably, he was known as a UX/Interaction Designer at GolfRush, an unreleased Roblox game. He spends 3 years mastering the art of UI animations from the ground up. He spend most of his days crafting UIs, and from time to time, he thinks to himself: is it worth the time? Ultimately GolfRush stopped it's development, and his three years of work will never be seen by the people. But that is the reason hes here today.

Today I added some turtles to my SDL2 game. They are peaceful, so you can bounce on them and kill them, but they won't do anything back. :tinyturtle:

Today I ported my SDL2 game from using Makefiles to using CMake and Ninja. Now I don't need to recompile the whole project every time I want to make a small tweak, only the files I changed (plus it looks fancy).

Yesterday I helped run the computer science table at our school district's middle school academy fair! talking hundreds of middle schoolers was very taxing, but it actually went great, we had a crowd around our table the entire time! I obviously advertised Hack Club a ton even though I was low on posters & flyers-- people loved the Sprig, the LED matrix (upcoming ysws 👀), the stickers, and most of all, the game! I projected my #C07MUFXNG82| pinball game onto the ceiling to draw people over & gave candy to people who could score 1000! I wanted to buy a gong with school budget that we could hit every time someone beat the high score, but even though it (shockingly) got approved it didn't arrive in time. Definitely gonna recreate this setup in the future!

I completely forgot about Scrapbook all throughout making this. OOPS! I wrote and published my first crate and command-line utility in #C0121LVV79P|, spade-serial and spade-upload ! They can upload games to a #C02UN35M7LG| or whatever device running Spade. I spent a lot of time writing the tests and documentation.. I wanted to get it right since this is my first time, so I know what to do in the future. spade-serial is the crate that does the actual work while spade-upload is the application that makes use of the crate. It's useful to me because I use Safari on my MacBook and Firefox on my other laptop, neither of which implement the Web USB API, so this provides a way for me to put games on my Sprig without installing another browser that I don't want to use. I made spade-serial into a crate because I wanted to keep the logic separate so that people could apply it in multiple places, like maybe a GUI app. The game uploaded in the video is this game. I did not create it. GitHub Repository | spade-serial on crates.io | spade-upload on crates.io
